Accepting Donations

I had lunch with Lily today, since I had the interview on Thursday. She originally wanted to go shopping downtown tomorrow (Saturday), but I mentioned that I was going to go to Metrotown to get some suits at Grafton. So we decided to do so at about 4pm after she was off work. We drove to Metrotown and I proceeded to buy two suits (one black, one navy) for $615 or so (both suits were 50% off). The weird thing was I was wearing my hot pink shirt at the time, and it matched quite well with the black suit. It's true what they say, anything goes with a black suit. We also did some random shopping; she bought some nice little pendants for her niece and we had a nice walk around the mall. Tomorrow we will continue our shopping excursions downtown before I work at 10:15pm.

I also bought a USB cable thing for my new phone, and just received my CD from eBay that has a bunch of wallpapers and ringtones for the phone. Hmm, shall I go with ABBA?

All I know is just like that my bank account has decreased by $700, so if anybody wants to donate to the "Make Jason Look Good" Fund, please go right ahead. Nighty night.

And Now the Waiting Begins

The interview went fairly well today, as I was fairly prepared for it. However, it's hard to say if my answers were exactly what they were looking for. By the way, I was interviewed by three (!) people at once; two people from Head Office and one of the shift managers at the Holiday Inn. It was intimidating at first but I managed to relax myself. Now we'll see what happens, and there's nothing else more I can do at this point.

Point of No Return

Here I am, sitting at home at 11:30pm, trying to calm my nerves as I await my big interview tomorrow in exactly 12 hours. There's nothing more I can do now but accept whatever cards I am dealt. If I fail and don't get the position, that's OK. I'll still be a supervisor and can apply the next time. But if I impress the powers that be enough, I'll see myself promoted. It's strange, part of me wants to get promoted and part of me is still hesitant about moving up so quickly. But when an opportunity comes your way, you have to grab it. So we'll see what happens tomorrow.

Destiny Finally Awaits

I have an interview on Thursday morning (11:30am) for the relief floor manager position! I guess there's no lunch with Lily (I actually found something more important than lunch with Lily!) but we'll probably reschedule or something.

Now I have less than 3 days to prepare. I hate interviews but I know they are a part of almost any job application, so all I can do is try my best. Hopefully the result will be something good.

Meanwhile, I'm just relaxing at home before an 11:15pm start at work.

PINK

I forgot to report on the debut of my hot pink shirt two nights ago (Saturday). I definitely turned a few heads. Some were shocked to say the least, but generally the shirt got very good reviews. Somebody said "it takes a real man to wear pink". In a way that's right, some people wear the same old crap every day and they look dull. My philosophy is to be different. Tonight I wore my purple shirt with the olive green Armani and a perfectly matched purple/green tie.

Unfortunately the next three nights I'm stuck wearing a white shirt and black pants, as I'm dealing! In fact I have 6 dealing shifts out of 10 this schedule; quite a refreshing change from all the supervising.

I am still waiting for "the interview" for the floor manager position, but inside sources seem to indicate I have an extremely good chance to get it. And if I don't, then that's fine, because in a way I almost hope I don't get it. To achieve such a high position in so short a time is quite overwhelming. But whatever happens happens.

Loud Pink

Michael picked me up at about 12:30pm and we went to Metrotown with her little daughter Renee. We went to the pet store to look at the little kitties and doggies and fishies, then had some lunch at the new and improved Food Fair. Then it was time for Uncle Jason to buy that loud pink shirt and equally loud pink tie. Do I have the nerve to wear it tonight? we'll see.

It's hard to believe it has snowed in Vancouver for four days straight now, almost as hard to believe that it was snowing Vegas too! What's going on?

OK time for a little nap before work.

Was it Worth it?

I had dinner with Michael after he was off work at 9pm because he had the money for me from the football pool. I'm rich! I'm rich! We went to the Cactus Club, the restaurant with the coolest washrooms around.

Afterwards we had nothing else to do, so what else is left but to go to the casino to play some hold'em. We both had lousy cards but somewhow both managed to make money. Michael made an astounding $20 and I earned an extra $5 for 2 hours of work. Yuk. I'd have lost if I didn't practically force myself to play A-8. Luckily the third and fourth cards were 8's.

Snow?

What the hell is going on? Is this Vancouver? Anyways, I guess for once I hope I don't have any shifts in Coquitlam, because I hear there's a lot more snow there. It's tough enough for me to walk four blocks to work at the Holiday Inn.

In other news, my new Motorola phone came today and is charging as we speak. Now I have a camera phone and must now make the important decision of picking a decent ringtone. This phone has MP3-quality ringtones (even voice ones!).

The Bad News

I went to visit the eye doctor today and the bad news was revealed. I have a form of glaucoma (not sure which one yet). At least it was diagnosed early so it's not like I'm going to go blind any time soon. But the eye will get worse over time and now it is imperative that I take steps to control the deterioration. The doctor has prescribed certain eyedrops and she will see in three months if they work.

For now I just can't worry about it, but I do have to take the drops every day. Life can be a bitch sometimes, but I can't let it bother me. On one hand, I must keep the prevention steps ongoing, but on the other hand I must ensure life goes on. If I'm lucky, I'll have my eyesight until I'm 100, who knows.

I spent most of the day at Metrotown just walking around. I considered buying an extremely "bright" loud pink shirt, but couldn't match it with anything I have. Even I will find it difficult to wear this to work. But I never back down from a challenge so we'll see. I was going to go see a movie but there was nothing that jumped out at me, other than Meet the Fockers, but I wasn't in the mood.

No More Bets

I have a late shift at 11:15pm, but instead of supervising tonight I am dealing! It is a nice change from standing around and pacing and watching your tables. As a dealer you get to participate more. I have no idea what I'm be dealing but they're all fine with me.

In the meantime I'm watching The Amazing Race before getting ready for work. I love this show.

So Close

Well I ended up winning $750. I would have tied for second place (and won $1125 instead) but the New York Giants scored a touchdown with 10 seconds left in the game. Boo. It was so close, but hey, $750 is $750!

Work was hectic but what else is new. At times it almost seemed like management was "grooming" me to be the floor manager, could it be that I've already been accepted and they are just getting me ready? Who knows, it's all speculation at the moment.

Off to bed now, I'm having lunch with Glenn, and if I'm not too tired, I might go to Metrotown since I didn't go today.

Bad News and Good News

I didn't get first place in the football pool, but at the moment I am guaranteed third place overall, which is good for $750. There is one more game left in about 30 minutes, and if Dallas covers the spread, I will tie for second place, which means $1125 instead of $750. Wish me luck!

Dreaming of Money

It's 9 in the morning and I haven't slept yet. I had breakfast with some coworkers and just got home. I'm off to bed. When I wake up, I could be $4000 richer! The casino football pool ends this week, and currently I'm in 3rd place (which is still good for $750), one point behind 2nd place ($1500) and two points behind 1st place ($4000). It's a matter of who gets the most points this week, so we'll see.

Welcome 2005

Well it's 12:37am on January 1, 2005 and I'm still at home. In the end, my friends all decided on their own activities and I guess for me, I opted for a peaceful night at home, chatting with friends and reminiscing with retro videos. In a way it was appropriate because with all the sad news in Asia it almost didn't feel right to go party. That's not to say I don't think people should have had fun. New Year's Eve only comes once a year. But this year peace and quiet were ideal for me.

I look forward to a hopefully better 2005. I still haven't heard about the floor manager position, but yes or no I'm flattered to have been considered. I still haven't heard from the eye specialist regarding my test (not until January 6) but que sera sera, whatever will be will be.

I'll probably head to bed early, then head to Metrotown for some January 1 shopping.

A Prayer

My last post in 2004 will be to send out my thoughts and prayers to all the families who lost loved ones from the devastation in Asia. It's impossible to comprehend all these numbers that are reported, numbers that keep going up. As bad as I feel my life is at times, it is nothing compared to what they are going through on the other side of the world. It is a somber end to the year, but I hope and pray they will get through this tragedy.

Last Post of 2004?

Just waiting for my friends to finalize plans as to what we're doing tonight...hope they decide in the next 3 hours or else it's all pointless.

I went shopping today with Lily after lunch and she picked out a nice purple shirt from Mexx. I'll probably go back tomorrow (Metrotown is open New Year's Day from 11am-6pm!) because there are some things at Tommy Hilfiger I might get too. We'll see.

The Phantom Returns

There are only 20.5 hours left in 2004 (at least for those of us on the West Coast). I haven't decided on concrete plans for New Year's Eve yet, so we'll see. Perhaps I'll go clubbing with Mei, or just relax at home.

I spent most of December 30 by myself. I went to see the movie version of The Phantom of the Opera and I must say I was quite impressed. I really loved the musical and didn't expect the movie version to be even close, but I was wrong. It was cool watching the spectacle on screen, and the actors did a reasonable job (although no one will ever come close to the original with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman). The new song at the end, "Learn to Be Lonely" was a very nice touch to a great movie. Yes, a few tears flowed during the movie. So I'm a sentimental fool.

I was so hungry at 2:30am I went out for pho at the 24-hour restaurant near my place. Now I'm back and probably ready for bed. Tiff, you must learn to sleep earlier.

Nothing Much

Pretty uneventful night in Coquitlam last night, the casino was busy for a while but died down at around 3am or so. Tonight I'm back at the Holiday Inn for a 7:45pm shift before two days off....which includes December 31!

Right now I don't have concrete plans for New Year's Eve, might go clubbing or karaoke with Mei (and perhaps Lily) or just have some quiet time. If I'm really silly I could call the casino and see if I can pick up a shift.

I must commence itinerary for employment....I bid you all adieu.

No Destiny Yet

Still no news on the floor manager position, so we'll see. I have the ugly 11pm-7am shift tomorrow (well, today December 28) in Coquitlam, perhaps I'll hear something then!

Meanwhile, much better news, I won the football pool at work this week! That's a nice $555 for me. There is one more week left in the season, meaning one more week until the overall prizes are determined. Right now I am in third place over all with 132 (first has 134, second has 133).... 1st place is $4000, 2nd place is $1500, 3rd place $750, 4th place $500. It's going to be close, wish me luck!

Destiny

I suspect I will find out something about the relief floor manager position. I have lost sleep wondering why Head Office would request that I apply, perhaps I am the most qualified based on my past experience. It's tough to speculate but I guess I will soon find out.

Work was hectic today, but somehow I managed to get through. If anything, I had to save a lot of people's asses tonight, there are supervisors who always manage to screw up somehow.

I'll be watching Oceans Twelve (or is it Oceans 12?) with Suzanne before a dreadful midnight shift. Then on Tuesday I'm going to old Coquitlam for an 11pm-7am shift. Hope it's not too cold for me.

Christmas Roundup

The casino was pretty dead so a lot of us were sent home early. My shift was supposed to be 8pm-4am but I was sent home at 12:45am! Well, it was time and a half anyways so I didn't lose a lot in wages.

No Boxing Day shopping for me, it's not worth the mayhem and craziness for a couple dollars in savings. It's silly to think that right now at 4 in the morning there are people lining up in front of A&B Sound. No thank you.

My Christmas presents consisted mostly of items that a dealer supervisor would expect to get....cologne, two ties, and a shirt. There was also the obligatory ABBA DVD that somebody always gets for me. My ex-boss asked me what I wanted, and I said a stereo so I just might get that.

Oink Oink

Just finished Christmas dinner at my uncle's....ROAST PIG! Damn that thing was huge. My cousin and I picked it up from Richmond. It cost $140! We could barely finish half of it, because my uncle and aunt made so much food other than the pig. So bloody full now.

Then a bunch of us (10) got together and played Cranium, which was a pretty fun game. We were divided into "Boys vs. Girls" and of course the men won.

Well, time to relax before I have to go back to work at 8pm....on Christmas Day too. Oh well, at least it's extra pay for working on a holiday. Wonder what it will be like to work with what's her name. It'll be interesting if I manage to get the floor manager position....I'll be her boss....

Chance of a Lifetime

An interesting development has occurred at work. There was a posting for a position as a Relief Floor Manager, which basically means you are in charge of the running of the casino. Above that is the Shift Manager. I was not going to apply this time around, because last time I did, I was told that I did not have enough "continuous gaming experience", since I had quit for so many years and only recently came back to the casino industry.

However, somebody from Head Office REQUESTED that I apply, which I found strange. Perhaps he sees something in me. If I somehow manage to secure this position it will mean a lot of responsibilities, and perhaps a lot of "enemies", considering I'd only been back to the casino industry for 6 months. Granted, I have a total of nine years casino experience, but that has been divided into stints of 5.5 years, 3 years and .5 years. But who knows, maybe I'll become the boss soon! I'll probably have to go through an interview process, but we'll see.

In the meantime, I hope everybody has a Merry Christmas!

The quest for Anna has ended. She's turned out to be one heck of a bitch. There I said it. It's mean, but it's true. If you happen to find this blog, Anna, well you are a bitch. And if anybody who knows Anna reads this blog, you can tell her that too. I know she's saying bad things about me so she'll get a taste of her own medicine. I'm usually very easygoing and can take a lot of jokes, but don't ever say things behind my back. So be it.

And for those who are wondering, no I won't say anything more about the matter. I'm going to enjoy my two days off and get ready for a nice Christmas dinner at my uncle's on Christmas Eve. Tomorrow I'll have lunch with Lily and dinner with Mickey. Somewhere in between I have to take that bloody Field Test to see if there is anything wrong with my eyes.

I'd like to say a special hello to my buddy in Oregon, the great johnnymc. It's been too long, we must keep in touch more often! I wonder where White Pants is after all these years.

The party's over. The music sucked but I made $100 in the hold'em tournament so who cares. They played NOTHING from the 70's and one or two songs from the 80's. I didn't even hear a lot of the recent stuff, it was more house and rave music, which I knew nothing about.

My head hurts like crazy from consumption of alcohol, so now it is time for sleep so I can recover. Luckily I have a late 10:15pm shift so it won't be so bad.

Christmas Mayhem

I was going to go shopping today on my day off but ended up staying home most of the day.....and without my computer too. I lent my notebook out to Michael because his was broken and he needed to take care of all his financial wheelings and dealings. I did go out briefly but came home in time to watch The Apprentice. It was pretty uneventful, as I pretty much knew who would win early on in the show. And when it was live, everybody voted for Kelly. Damn I would have chosen the Vegas condo, maybe if the Donald reads this blog....I'm available.

I've pretty much planned my Christmas shopping. My plan each year is to decide what to get for whoever I'm getting present for, then spend a day (or two max) running around frantically. This way I only experience the mayhem for one day. At least this year I'm starting "early". I've been known to start my Christmas shopping on December 24 about an hour before the shops close.

Only three more days until the Christmas party for work. Time to get drunk and dance the night away. Ben (and Tiff too), I hear there will be a hold'em tournament so if you can somehow get a fake ID, come to the Aqua Lounge Sunday night after 9pm.

Random Rumblings

1.75 hours of overtime last night (well now this morning), but why not if you get time and a half? I have the same start tomorrow (well tonight now) at 8:15pm so who knows.

Everybody at work got their Christmas present from the company. It's a nice leather carry-on bag. It actually doesn't look bad. In February we'll get our profit sharing, should be a couple hundred bucks for me. Cool.

Well, it looks like the NHL season is pretty much over, what a shame. At least they keep showing classic hockey games on TV.

The Phantom Returns

December 22 is the premier of a movie I've been waiting a LONG time to see....Phantom of the Opera. I saw the musical twice and it was awesome. It is one of the most beautiful stories ever....and a pretty good book too for those who prefer to read.

Meanwhile, I guess the Chess Christmas Party thing is on Sunday so maybe I'll go for the food.

Work Blues

My days off changed for this week from Thursday-Friday to Wednesday-Thursday, so... I have two days off! As usual, the first day off is spent doing absolutely nothing. I've slept for most of the day but now I'm up. Perhaps I'll do some shopping since December 25 is rapidly approaching. I usually like to plan all my shopping beforehand so it doesn't take me too long to buy all the necessary presents. I just hate all the lineups and pushy people.

The casino Christmas party is on December 19 (Sunday), and I requested the night off so I could attend.... and possibly make a complete fool of myself again. But why not, it's a great time to unwind. No more topless pictures I hope.

O.T.

I switched shifts so I could start early at 7:45pm (instead of 10:15pm) so I could go home at 3:45am...or so I thought. It was SOOOO busy at work that probably half the dealers and supervisors had to work overtime. I didn't get off work until 5:15am. Oh well, can't complain, overtime means time and a half, extra tips, and hence more money. And now for some reason I'm wide awake even at 6 in the morning.

Well, I'll have to try to sleep anyways, so good night.

Time For Work Again

So much for two days off, they went by way too quickly.

What did I do today? Not much. I had lunch with Lily and then at about 4pm we went shopping at Oakridge. It was too early for me to start my Christmas shopping, so I just hung around with her. The one thing with Lily and me is that we can just hang out like friends, making crude jokes at each other (she's unbelievably good at that too). She's a really good friend to have and I'm really glad I met her.

I did a silly thing; I came home at 7 and took a nap. Now I'm wide awake. Guess I'll be up for a while watching TV and surfing randomly on the Web.

Apprentice Review

B.S. Two sluts can walk around selling candy bars for $5 but the girl who took a chance got accused as a stripper. Well, it didn't help her name was Ivana. But at least I got to see a bit of her ass before she left.

Well it's two smart guys against two bimbos, wonder who the Donald will go with. Then again, he's married a few sluts himself.

Who Needs Sleep?

Eek, I get home in the morning (Wednesday) at around 8:30am, hoping for a decent sleep. I knew at some point a new fridge would be delivered since the old one broke. But I was told it would come around 3:30pm, which was OK...

At 10am I was woken up by the casino, asking if I could go to Richmond for a 12pm shift. The floor manager was not aware that I had just finished an 11pm-7am shift in Coquitlam the night before. Due to health regulations (or whatever it's called), I cannot work unless 8 hours have elapsed between shifts, so I couldn't.

Then at 11am a friend of mine asked me out for lunch (no not Lily). And at 11:30am my Mom called to make plans for lunch on Thursday. Finally at 3pm the fridge arrives. And at 5pm I started my shift at work. Was I grumpy? What do you think?

But it's over now and I have my days off. I have lunch with family tomorrow and then a trip to the eye specialist to see if there is anything wrong with my eye. I certainly hope not, I'm actually a bit scared. Well, we'll see.

Just Another Day

Just sitting at home watching The Amazing Race (early version on Channel 134) before my trek to Coquitlam for my 11pm shift. Before that I watched Rebel Billionaire, nothing too exciting.

Looks like it's a cold one outside, something tells me we're going to see a lot of snow this year.

Boring Work

Lots of 10:15pm-6:15am shifts on the present 2-week schedule. I'm actually getting used to them, but the problem is that most of the time I'm stuck in the roulette pit, watching the same games (while other supervisors usually get to watch a variety of games during the night). Unfortunately not enough supervisors know roulette like I do.

Tuesday I have an 11pm-7am shift...IN COQUITLAM! I haven't been back there in a while. The tips are the best there so I can't complain.

I won't see Jolene until Saturday night, but I can't wait.

"Lord Vader"..."Yes Master"..."Rise!"

Went to see The Incredibles with Albert, but the highlight was watching the trailer for Star Wars Episode III. May 19, 2005 I know where I'll be. I can't wait.

Oh yeah, The Incredibles. It was actually a pretty neat movie/cartoon, much better than I had expected. I recognized a few of the voices but it wasn't like they had a lot of really popular actors and actresses (Samuel L. Jackson was my favorite).

I've Had Better Days

This is a pretty miserable day so far, especially because things are up in the air. When I went for my eye exam last week, I did a bunch of other tests. Evidently the "field test" was not very good and I'm being referred to an eye specialist. Of course this does not necessarily mean something bad, but then again it does not necessarily mean nothing is wrong. The dreaded word glaucoma came into the conversation, and I can only hope that's not the case. But if it is the case, I hope at least something can be done. I hope all this is a case of paranoia on my part...I guess we'll see once I see the eye specialist.

Meanwhile, I guess I should wish any Americans reading this ultra-boring blog a Happy Thanksgiving.

Time for R & R

At last I have two days off to relax in the comfort of my home. I doubt I'll be doing much although I think it's time I do some spring cleaning. My place is such a mess. There's also this table that's been in my balcony for three years that I haven't gotten around to getting rid of (mainly because I don't know how I'd throw it away). I wonder if I can some how fit it into storage downstairs.

If Life is a Bowl of Cherries then Why am I in the Pits?

Lately my life seems to be in a rut. Sure, I'm happy I'm back at work at the casino, catching up on old times with friends and meeting new people. But every day it seems to be the same old thing...sleep, eat, work (in different orders). I need a holiday and so far have requested some time off in July for the 2005 Canadian Open. I'd also like to go to Vegas some time in the spring just to see the greatest place in the world. Soon Ben and I will take the poker world by storm I hope.

As for chess, I doubt I'll be playing much in the coming months, perhaps not until the Canadian Open itself. There's just no time and energy to devote a whole weekend.

Must Be PMS

What an ugly night to return to after two wonderful days off. The floor manager was in an amazingly grumpy mood and it definitely showed. She was pretty much yelling at everybody and blaming others for certain mistakes when it was she herself who made them (I won't go into detail here). As supervisors, we are told never to rebuke dealers on the table, but to take them aside or speak to them on their breaks. The same should apply when a manager must say something to a supervisor. However, Ms. Floor Manager was pretty much insulting us within hearing range of dealers and supervisors (and players) and it definitely does not look good.

But after work five of us (supervisors) had a wonderful breakfast at Denny's venting our frustrations out, it was awesome. I still feel shitty about the whole night but at least I got a lot of things off my chest. Now I can hopefully get a decent "day's" sleep before getting back to the grind at 8:30pm.

You're Fired....and You're Fired Too

Wow, a double firing on The Apprentice last night! Well, both Wes and Maria were arguing for the whole show so it's not too surprising they both got the axe. What happens, is there like one less episode of the show now?

My eyes aren't as swollen from the contacts now but I went to the eye doctor who said I could perhaps stick to glasses for the weekend just to rest the eyes. We'll see how I look tomorrow when I get some sleep.

On another note, I had to write a report on an incident that happened at the casino on November 15. I won't get into detail here (as you will all be incredibly bored and confused) but suffice to say a customer complained about one of the dealers and frankly I have to side with the customer on this one. However, I may have made a few incorrect judgement calls myself. Hopefully I won't get into too much shit over it.

Money Money Money

I'm watching the early version of The Apprentice as we speak. Looks like something to do with Levi's. Hmm, is it me or is Ivana kind of hot this week?

My right eye has been quite swollen from my failed attempts to put the contact lens in. Everybody at work last night thought that I either had no sleep or was in a fight. I probably won't wear them on my days off.

Mei wanted to play bingo tonight but I wasn't in the mood. I'm just going to relax a bit and probably grab some dinner later. Tiff, where are you?

The New Look

I'm wearing contact lenses now! What started as a long overdue trip to the eye doctor for an exam became a new experience for me. I am still planning to get new eyeglasses in the New Year (when my extended medical coverage kicks in) but the eye doc and I discussed contact lenses so I thought what the heck.

So far I'm not used to sticking things into my eye and then taking them out. It took me almost 30 minutes to put them on the first time, but the cute little receptionist said that's an average time. I guess we'll see what happens now; I have a three month's supply of them so if I decide not to continue with them, that's OK. But I must admit they're cool. I don't feel them at all.

On a different note, I just finished watching the second episode of Rebel Billionaire. WOW! What a show, it's my new favorite (even ahead of The Apprentice). Now I'm watching The Amazing Race before I get ready for work.

Work Sucks (again)

It was another tough night at work; without getting into detail suffice to say that it's tough to be a supervisor. Sometimes you tell someone to do something again and again, and yet he or she does not do it. It gets so frustrating sometimes.

Meanwhile, Jolene starts her two-week holiday. I left my phone number (and email address) with her and asked her to call me for dinner. Let's see if she calls me. In the meantime there's still Anna at work....

7:15am, perhaps I should commence sleep.

The Search is Over?

Could it be another passing phase, or could it be I've POSSIBLY found the woman of my dreams? And after all this time, can it be that it's not Anna after all?

Jolene is in many ways the opposite of Anna. I'm not saying she's a dumb blonde but I sense that Anna is more intelligent while Jolene is more beautiful. Anna is short, Jolene is tall. Anna is introverted, Jolene is extroverted. And yet I'm attracted to both.

Tonight, I was flirting a bit with Jolene (Anna left just as I started work) and surprisingly Jolene was flirting back. That of course doesn't mean much except that she at least doesn't find me impulsive. I was fortunate enough to spend every break with her.

The bad thing (or can it be good?) is that she's on holiday for two weeks starting Tuesday. She's not planning to go anywhere so it looks like she has a lot of free time to...say....go out with me. It's time to plan something like a movie on Friday. What's good in the theater these days?

Raise

After taking my best friend Michael and his wife Vandy out for dinner, Michael and I decided to try out luck on the poker tables, since we hadn't gone for such a long time (almost a year?). We played for about three hours, and made about $100 between the two of us (Michael about $65 and me about $35). Good enough. I didn't get a lot of good hands but whenever I did get one, I got paid for it.

When are you going to be old enough to play, Ben? The tables await you.

Days Off Finally

Wow, what a way to end my week. I started at 7:45pm and didn't sign out until 5am. Quick kids, how many hours did Mr. Feng work? It was really busy at work and as if by fate, I did not spend ONE shift in roulette (I usually spend 80% of my time there) where the ever lovely Anna was working. I've asked a few people and again, as if by fate, EVERY ONE of them thought that Jolene was more my type than Anna. Well I guess I have two days to contemplate and decide on a plan of action.

These two days off are most welcome after a long week. Perhaps I'll stay in bed for 48 hours.

Anna Who?

Can it be, has somebody come into my life that makes me forget about Anna?

There are two new roulette dealers, one was Jelena, who was part of that little incident I wrote about yesterday. The other is a ravishing girl named Jolene. I had seen her a few months ago when I had a day shift, as she used to work days until she took the roulette course, and now must return back to night shift.

Anyways, suffice to say there was something about her, something enticing. As if by fate, her very first shift on roulette was with me supervising, and even though she was nervous, she managed to get through it. Evidently she was telling everybody in the breakroom what a nice supervisor I was, helping her through her first hour. My best friend at the casino, Michael, was even asking me what the hell was going on between me and Jolene, because he noticed we were standing very close to each other. Hmmm....

And now, a decision to make...there is the quiet, gentle Anna, and from what I gather, the more outgoing Jolene. Hopefully I'll end up with one of them at least.

On another note, I saw the premiere episode of Rebel Billionaire, the reality show with Richard Branson. This is a cool show if you haven't watched it yet.

You Talkin' To Me?

It was bound to happen sooner or later, I almost went at it with a player tonight. He was picking on one of the roulette dealers, who was dealing for the first time. She was nervous but that's part of the process. I was very annoyed that somebody would have nothing better to do than try to make it worse for the dealer. I told the player to relax and then he just started swearing and pretty much threatening me. So I called the manager and then the guy left. Nothing much became of that, but I really felt bad for the dealer. Why are people such assholes sometimes?

Paging Dr. Feng

Now I know how a doctor feels being on call every day.

After work last night (10:15pm-6:15am) a couple of us coworkers decided to go for breakfast at Denny's, and I didn't get home until around 8. No worries, I wasn't supposed to work until 10:15pm tonight as well.

That was until I got a "wakeup call" at 12:45pm asking if I can come in to work at 2:15pm. Ugh. Well, I guess at least I can sleep early TONIGHT. So I only have time to say hi before getting ready for work....8 hours after I came home from work.

Sorry everyone, I couldn't get into Blogger the last couple of days...but here I am. Nothing much has happened in the last few days, other than the fact that Tiff seems to be doing well in Greece. I was supposed to have to days off on Thursday and Friday, but yesterday they called me in for a 4pm shift. Oh well, money's money.

Looks like my favorite contestant Raj is gone from The Apprentice. Too bad the receptionist wouldn't go out with him...smooth guy to the end. Who's going to win now? I don't know and don't really care that much now. The show hasn't been as interesting as last year, I don't really see ANYBODY who's really capable of becoming The Apprentice.

48 Hours of Freedom

At last, two days off Thursday and Friday. It's been an interesting week to say the least. I've "heard" that I won the Hallowe'en costume contest at work, but nobody seems to know what the prize (if any?) is. I heard that the prize is coming from Head Office...what does that mean? Somebody said it's $100. Last time I got a prize from the casino it was a T-shirt. So we'll see.

I'll be pretty busy on my days off, lunch with my usual Thursday lunch date, and then I have to finish 6 evaluations for dealers. I actually had 5 but one of the supervisors was too busy and asked me to do one....guess who the evaluation is for? Hint: look at the subtitle of my blog. Well, nevertheless, I have to be fair, and there is a lot that she can work on to become a good roulette dealer.

Wonder how Tiff is doing, it's weird not reading an update on her blog after so many days! EMAIL ME!

Damn Blisters

Looks like the silly Americans are going to vote the silly president back into office for four years. Well, if anything, the alternative wasn't exactly any better.

Just went to a dinner for one of the managers at the casino that is transferring to Coquitlam. I guess I'm still a little buzzed...and I have to go to work tomorrow at 5pm.

In other silly news, I'd bought a new pair of shoes a few days ago, and I guess they're a bit too tight because I developed two ugly blisters on the heel. What sucks is they can't heal well because I have to wear the shoes to work, and I end up tearing the skin again (ewwww). Aren't you glad I told you all about this?

Trick or Treat

Did everybody have a nice Hallowe'en? With little time to decide yesterday when I went shopping for a costume, it was down to Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and either Austin Powers or Dr. Evil. In the end I decided on Austin Powers. Damn I looked good.

In other news, I am tied for first again in the football pool, and can win another $555 this week if things go well. Ideally, the New York Jets will beat the Miami Dolphins by more than 6 points AND the total points scored by both teams are less than 42.

Dressing Up

Evidently we are allowed to dress up on Hallowe'en night so I have about 15 hours to decide what I should wear. I've been "hinting" that I need some high heels, hmmm. I remember once I dressed in drag and it was difficult trying to find size 10 high heels. Any ideas? Maybe I'll just go with the standard Elvis outfit.

Meanwhile, I had 45 minutes OT tonight, no big deal. It's extra money any way you look at it. Time to do a bit of surfing before bed.

So much for my two days off, time sure flies when you're doing nothing. I did get to run a few errands today, coffee with Sam, buying a new pair of shoes, picking up the Armani ties I bought on eBay, and having dinner at Osaka Teppanyaki Restaurant with Henry Chiu (some of you may know him). Came home to watch The Apprentice (missed it last night) and now just being a couch potato.

Anyways, in case I don't talk to you Tiff, have a great time you know where! Maybe you'll meet a cute little boy over there or something. Hee hee.

I'm So "Ronery"

I went to see Team America: World Police with Albert tonight, the movie was hilarious! Sure it was sexist and racist, but who cares. My two favorite scenes was when the Korean dictator sang his "I'm So Lonely" song and the speech at the end was hilarious (the one with the Dicks, P*ssies and *ssholes).

But since there are children reading this blog, be warned there is nudity and sexual situations (even if they are between two puppets).

I Won Again!

Before my shift in Coquitlam last night at 11pm, Mei called me up to play bingo in Surrey from 6:30pm to about 10pm. I wasn't too excited to go considering I find bingo incredibly boring. But based on my winning streak I thought I'd give it a shot.
Well I managed to get TWO bingos! As it was, I spent about $49 but got back $161, not bad. I wonder what I should gamble on tonight to continue the streak.

I Won!

Strange that I'm mixing incredible luck with incredible frustration (at work). Today, I just won $550 in the football pool at work! There is one more game tomorrow but I am in first place by 2 so I can't be caught!

But unfortunately there is work itself, and after last night's problems I don't really want to go to work tonight. But of course, what choice do I have?

Hope you guys had fun in the Pairs tournament, but I was just to tired to go.

Work Sucks

I had a miserable day at work. It must be bad when I don't even notice Anna. I won't bore everyone with the details but suffice to say people (both players and staff) put me into a really shitty mood. Mistakes were made and certain staff (rather than accept responsbility) decided to blame me. But I wouldn't have any of that. In the end, I practically took matters into my own hands and pretty much managed the running of the casino on my own. It was almost as if management had an inkling was testing me since they knew I would apply for the relief floor manager position.

Nevertheless, it was a day I would rather forget.
On another note, I won $10 on Lotto 6/49 on Saturday to continue my lottery streak.

Better Than Nothing

I got five numbers out of seven in the Super 7 yesterday! In total, I managed to win $168.50 for an $8 investment, not bad! I can't believe I only won $168 though, I mean the odds of getting 5 numbers out of 7 (47 numbers to choose) isn't exactly easy. Oh well, better than nothing.

Today I took my cousin to Aberdeen Mall and went to that Daiso place, the huge store where everything is $2. Tiff, I think you'd be in heaven there. I bought a couple of pens and miscellaneous stuff for....$2 each. Some things there are not worth $2, while some things are incredible deals at $2.

Anyways, now we're going to Shabusen for dinner with his friend and wife, then I have my wonderful midnight shift. Toodle loo.

Work Work Work

Strangely, a number of my fellow supervisors asked me if I was applying for the Relief Floor Manager position, almost as if they thought I should get it or something. Or perhaps they are just nosy. Anyhow, I have three days to put my application together, so we'll see what happens.

Meanwhile I'm so tired from my graveyard shift yesterday; luckily I had today off but I spent most of it with my cousin visiting from Toronto. Tomorrow I'll be out probably the whole day with him and my Grandma, before a dreaded 12am shift. Yuk.

Against All Odds

There is a position available at the casino for a relief floor manager. The floor manager/relief floor manager is in charge of the running of the casino games (whereas the shift manager is more in charge of the technical aspects, and is the "boss" of the floor manager). Anyways, I've decided to apply, even though I am facing fairly impossible odds (slim and none, etc.). However, who would have thought that the Boston Red Sox would beat the New York Yankees after being down 3-0?

Realistically I don't have much of a chance, but if anything, my application is part of a plan; this way Head Office at least knows I am interested, and in the future I may have a better chance. And of course, if the planets are aligned correctly, perhaps a miracle can happen. Who knows.

Time to touch up my resume and write one hell of a cover letter. "Yo yo, gimme the job, yo"...OK maybe not.

I'm Hungry

Went to the television preview thing with Glenn. There were about 100 other people there, much more than I had expected. We got to preview two shows.

The first was called Soulmates. The premise was a woman who runs into a guy that she evidently had a past with in a past life (if you believe in that stuff). The guy has a lot of secrets that he keeps from the woman and in the end, he leaves her but leaves a note which says he loves her but she shouldn't look for him. Anyways, it was a great idea but I don't know if it can become a series. Nevertheless I gave it a thumbs up.

The second was called City, a sitcom starring Valerie Harper, who plays a city manager. It had some funny spots but basically it was just another sitcom, nothing special, so I gave it a thumbs down.

There were door prizes (6 in all) and Glenn managed to win one of them. Lucky SOB.

Anyways, I also want to add that tonight, I had dinner at 6pm with Glenn. Then when the preview was over Glenn drove me home at around 10....and I was bored so I went to a restaurant near my place and ate a chicken steak. I came home and was MSN'ing with Tiff and my friend Sam when Albert calls me and says he's outside and wants to go grab a bite. Hmm, so we went to Knight & Day and I found out that Tuesdays is All You Can Eat Ribs....so I ate like three plates of ribs. Three meals in 7 hours, I rule.

Work in the Boonies

As it turned out I did drive to Coquitlam, as I took too long to get ready. I only managed to get to work about 10 minutes before my shift so I was cutting it close. The graveyard shift came and went without any major problems, and the drive home at 5:30 in the morning was quite peaceful.

Today is a day off but I'm going to that television preview thing with Glenn. I wonder what two (new) shows we'll be previewing. All they've said is that there will be two 30-minute clips.

Hmm, looks like Belle and Philip are going to do the nasty soon on Days of Our Lives.....

Oops

Tonight is my last night in Coquitlam (three total) and last night wasn't exactly the best. I forgot to lock one of the tables and almost got into major shit. In fact, I'm sure there's a note of it somewhere.

This long trek to Coquitlam has also been tiring me out. Strangely I'll probably take the Skytrain to work tonight. I never like long drives, especially by myself. I could use my day off tomorrow, which I requested as I'm going to a preview thing with one of my friends. It's at www.televisionpreview.com and I'm not sure what to expect.

Anyways, I guess I'm just having not the best of weeks so far, hopefully it gets better.

It was a pretty busy night in Coquitlam, but that's the way I like it; better than standing around doing nothing (as I often do at the Holiday Inn in Vancouver). I have two more graveyard shifts there, and then it's back to boring Holiday Inn. I'll probably make about $225 in tips for the three nights....YES!

I guess I should probably get some sleep since I have to play in the dreaded Grand Prix tomorrow. CHESS SUCKS. But I'm starving so I'll probably go grab something beforehand.

Had my flu shot tonight during the family dinner....I guess it's OK when your uncle is a doctor. Everybody had their chance getting their left arm jabbed by a needle. It's not that I hate needles (after all, I DO have a a tattoo) but it's that afterwards for a few hours my arm feels sore and I find it somewhat difficult to lift things. Evidently it's an aftereffect for some people.

Anyways, the next THREE days I'll be in faraway Coquitlam, with shifts of 3pm-11pm (OK), 11pm-7am (yuk) and 9pm-5am (yuk). I guess if I'm lucky a beautiful girl will also be there too, but I won't hold my breath. Good night to all....

That's What Friends Are For

Had dinner with Albert and discussed his impending separation. It's sad but to be honest, I don't think he and Mei were meant to be, and I don't believe they can compromise. Oh well, if it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be. The best I can do is to be a friend when he or Mei needs one. It's tough because they are both my best friends and I don't want to see them this way, but to repeat the same phrase in the same paragraph for the fourth time....perhaps it's not meant to be.

After dinner at TGI Friday's at Metrotown we went to Silver City to see what movies were about to start at 10:10pm. Our only choice was Shaun of the Dead....actually it was a silly enough movie that I could say it was pretty good.

Then we went for a long drive, first from Metrotown to Stanley Park....and then all the way to Coquitlam! I wanted to time the trip from near my house just so I know how much time I needed to get to work there on Saturday. The trip (from about 1am near my place) took only 20 minutes, but for a 3pm shift on Saturday I should probably give myself a little over an hour in case there is traffic.

OK Tiff (or whoever reads this who is going to THE STREET with her), perhaps I'll see you downtown. Look for me at Chapters around 2pm or so, or call me. Tiff has my number (and if she doesn't I just emailed it to her).

So I go on my break at 12:45am, knowing that my last hour would be spent on roulette, supervising the most beautiful roulette dealer I know, the one who spins the ball exactly like I do, the one I might actually be falling in love with.....

...and then at 12:47am the manager says I can go home, because the casino is pretty dead and they don't need me. Well, I get to go home early, but then I miss seeing her. And now I have two days off followed by a shift in Coquitlam. Ah the cruelty of it all.

Nevertheless it's nice to go home early, especially on my "Friday". Hopefully I'll get a good night's sleep, and then I can have lunch with Lily.

Should I or Shouldn't I?

Should I feel guilty? A friend of mine is in Europe for a 2-week holiday and left me her car for safekeeping. Does safekeeping mean I'm allowed to take it for a drive now and then? I hope so. This will definitely make my shift in Coquitlam a lot easier to get to.

Random Thoughts

Did everybody have a good Thanksgiving? I was at work but I had a good time. The music was set to a retro station so all night I was listening to mostly disco and 80's songs. I'm back to work tonight once more as a dealer; back to supervising tomorrow.

It is possible that starting next year I will be teaching the roulette course to dealers who are learning the game. This will mean I will be working both as a teacher AND a supervisor, lots of work (and not much sleep) but the money should be excellent.

Tomorrow is SUPPOSED to be the start of the NHL season. This sucks bigger than anything in the world. Hockey is my life and to go possibly a year (or MORE???) with no hockey is sickening. I hope these money-grabbing idiots get their act together. And by the way, I hate the owners and I hate the players too. They obviously don't care about the fans.

Three Girls but No Anna

It all started at about 11 when one of my female friends called me for lunch, and also to tell me that she was going on a trip to Germany and Austria the next day and to ask if I wouldn't mind watching her cats for two weeks. No problem I guess, especially since she treated me for lunch at Earl's. Mmmmm. Then at about 1pm Lily called me to see if I wanted to go for lunch....hmmm....pass up a lunch date with Lily? Did you think I could Tiff? So I went to lunch with Lily and we talked until around 2:30pm. Then I decided to go downtown and called one of my best friends Sam for coffee. No Tiff, not YOUR Sam, my friend is actually named Sam. Afterwards I was going to hang out at Chapter's for a while but then ANOTHER female friend of mine, Mei, wanted to go play bingo in Surrey (????) and needed company. Bingo, the most boring game in the universe but I had nothing else to do anyways so off I went.

As it turned out, I lost $30 while she got TWO bingos and won about $120. I got another free meal out of it. Yes, good old Jason getting free food from pretty girls.

No plans on Friday, my second day off. Maybe just chill and catch The Apprentice, since I missed it tonight.

I Love to Work!

I had a great night at work, even though it was in the boonies known as Coquitlam. It was pretty busy and as a result, there were times when the stress level was fairly high. However, I work much better in times of stress. There's all this money being passed around, and as a supervisor I have to make sure everything is paid (and taken away) correctly. I must admit that I ALMOST made a $500 mistake when a dealer miscounted the chips she was supposed to give out. But I caught it.

I'm beginning to like my job more and more now. Perhaps it's because I set that five-year goal of becoming the floor manager. Nevertheless, I love going to work (and no, it's not just because of that beautiful girl).

Tiff, I hope you feel better, as your last post was a bit sad. But I admit sometimes I like to just stare at the wall myself, and at times I almost want to cry. Keep your chin up.

Working 9 to 5

Tonight I have the ultra-ugly 9pm-5am shift in Coquitlam. Tips are the best there but the ugly part is getting there. Well in this case the ugly part is getting back at 5 in the morning.

Damn I need a car. It's one of my priorities in the next few months, in addition to getting new glasses. I haven't decided what car to get yet.... nothing fancy but nothing absolutely ugly neither.

OK back to watching poker on TV now.

The Human Calculator

I got to deal for a second night and I must say it was great. The key to dealing a good roulette game is to be able to calculate the payouts that a player has won, and to do it quickly. Last night my brain must have been working overtime because I was coming up with calculations faster than usual. The players were often shocked and even the supervisors were impressed. I guess I have to thank my Grandma years ago, who instilled the times table into my head when I was about 8 years old.

If anything, it's all a matter of applying the appropriate shortcuts and just being able to calculate in your head. For example, to multiply 73 x 32, you can go (73 x 30) + (73 x 2), or just calculate in your head. I wonder how wonder brain Ben does it.

Tonight I'm back to supervising, but it was a nice change the last two nights.
And I saw "The Wedding Singer" this afternoon which has put me into a good mood because I love the movie.

Sorry But I'm Taken

Interesting night at work. I got to deal (as opposed to supervising), which is a welcome change. Even though I was still under the weather (with the occasional runny nose) I had an awesome night on roulette. It was as if I hadn't left for five years. On a strange note, I was propositioned by one of the players, which would normally be flattering but in the case the player was a guy.....EWWWWWW. Not that there's anything wrong with that but.....EWWWWW.

My new medicine of the week is Dimetapp, let's see if my nose is still a waterfall tomorrow. Good night to all.

At Last

Well tonight I finally had "the talk" with management regarding my probation at work, and I basically passed with flying colors. All that remains is to complete about a week's more worth of work to complete the "hours" requirement.

My evaluation was very good, better than I'd expected it to be, but there are things that I can still work on. Two major things are confidence and I guess respect. The confidence is obvious, as I have been quite hesitant at times because I was unsure of certain procedures. The respect is more being able to critique other people, even if they are good friends that I have known for a while. And yes, that includes Anna.

So now I'm "in", now I can set other goals (new car, new glasses, perhaps some new threads?).

Countdown

7:45pm, waiting for a dreadful 10:15pm-6:15am shift at work. I missed The Apprentice yesterday because I forgot it was on Wednesday, but it's on at 8pm so cool.

Considering I was sick, I managed to get a lot done today. I had lunch with Sam (there, you're mentioned), made my weekly deposit at the bank (and I don't mean sperm), picked up the two Armani shirts that I'd ordered on eBay (and they're real too) and my drycleaning as well. Now just getting ready for work.

Thanks Tiff for bringing back horrid memories of High School. I can't believe I had to remember radicals after all these years. All these repressed memories are returning. Eek...just kidding...ask me for help anytime.

This must be one of the most boring blog entries I've had. Does anybody want to know anything about me?
