Bamboo Shoots

After watching The Bachelorette tonight, I would now like to offer the most useless wastes of time on American television as of July 5, 2010. These people have no talent and yet want their 15 (and in some cases 20) minutes of fame. Alternatively they are people with some talent but have no idea what to do with their lives but waste away. But as usual the most pathetic thing is people still love them.

1) Kate Gosselin - Oh she's miles ahead of anyone else. Between subjecting myself to see her face and sticking bamboo shoots up my fingernails, I really can't decide.

2) Jake Pavelka - He has gone from the supposedly nice guy on the other Bachelorette show to now perhaps the most hated person on TV (next to #1). His interview was such a joke. Get off of TV please. Unfortunately, he'll get some sort of a reality show because the stupid American public will keep watching.

3) Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt - Well they're separated but together they are still silly wastes of time. Attention whores, probably next season of Dancing With the Stars will have one or both of them on.

4) Miley Cyrus - 17 years old and already miles ahead of Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan in the lost cause category. She'll be pregnant in no time and be in rehab before the end of the year.

5) Britney Spears/Lindsay Lohan - May their singing/acting careers end forever. Enough already.

America's Got Talent (really)

Due to my schedule, I haven't had the chance to watch America's Got Talent until tonight. It's good to see for once that we are watching people who are actually capable of doing something, instead of all those silly shows that masquerade as reality shows. Last season, though, I was disappointed in the show because the American public voted for the "story" rather than the "talent" when they picked that country singer Kevin Skinner instead of the obviously more talented Barbara Padilla. Perhaps they will do it again this year. After all, who kept Kate Gosselin on TV far more than she deserved?

My early pick so far is the talented Dutch child who played Mozart on the keyboard. Wow.

About Time

Evidently the May 8 Saturday Night Live will be hosted by none other than Betty White. There had been a big campaign on Facebook and others to have her as host. She rules.

Real TV

Here is a list of TV shows that I watched growing up through the years and really, really miss. They were so much better than most of the crap on now.

1) The Tonight Show with JOHNNY CARSON
2) The Donny & Marie Show
3) The Carol Burnett Show
4) The Price is Right with BOB BARKER
5) Happy Days - before the Fonz jumped the shark
6) The Dean Martin Roasts
7) Wonder Years

That's all I can think of for now, although there were many more. I could watch reruns of these all day long.

Dancing With the Stars Finale

Yes I'm a big Donny Osmond fan (well perhaps more of a Marie fan) and at the beginning of the season I wanted him to win, but it just seemed unfair that it was him. Mya was by far the best dancer (which she proved week after week) but it must have been all those Utahans (?) that voted for Donny. He definitely had more fans than anybody else on the show. Perhaps even Kelly Osborne should have won ahead of Donny because of her great story. But of course that's the way these "American judges" shows work. The popular one always wins, and not the better won.

Any guesses for next season's cast? Jon & Kate? Lindsay Lohan? Paris Hilton and Britney Spears? Amy Winehouse?

Battle of the Blades

With all the silly American shows featuring celebrities dancing, it was inevitable that the True North Strong and Free would come up with something, and of course it had to do with hockey. What they came up with was actually quite interesting, even if it was all for charity. For those who didn't know, the show paired up a retired hockey player with a professional figure skater (8 pairs in total) and they did routines with one pair being eliminated each week. In the end it was Craig Simpson and Jamie Sale who won. I hope they do another season of this show soon.

Three Rivers

I'd never been a fan of all those medical dramas on TV. I might have watched a few episodes of St. Elsewhere back in the 80's, and maybe a few of E.R. But I'm definitely a fan of Three Rivers now. What started out as a "must-see" because one of Amy's favorite humans in the world, Daniel Henney, was one of the doctors has become a superb show full of drama and especially ethical issues. Tonight's episode featured Mandy Patinkin in an Emmy-worthy performance as a patient with Lou Gehrig's disease who decided to let himself die and donate his organs. While I am not here to spout my views, I am here to say his performance was very powerful. This is a great show.

American Judging

Way back in May I posted an entry regarding Dancing With the Stars and how unfair the so-called judging was. Nothing has changed. You can't tell me that Natalie Coughlin should have been eliminated, it was only because she wasn't as popular as the others. Are the Americans really voting for who they think are the better dancers, or are they voting for their favorite celebrity?

Let's not forget the past season of America's Got Talent. It is blatantly obvious that AMERICA voted for the underdog just because he had a nice story. Unfortunately I can guarantee you that his show in Vegas is probably a flop, while Barbara Padilla and the percussion group will find much more success.

Reality?

Who wants to make a bet that the balloon family will get a reality show? Wow, between that show, Octomom, Kate the Loser Plus 8, who has time for anything else? America is so obviously in the forefront of excellent TV programming. They prefer a chicken farmer who sings offkey to an opera singer who hit every note. Where do I begin?

Maybe I miss all the Michael Jackson reports after all.

Victim?

I find this whole David Letterman situation hilarious. As usual, the wonderful media has somehow transformed a bad person into a saint. yes, he was the victim of a possible blackmail scheme but evidently the fact that he was being blackmailed because he was having an affair seems to be forgotten. Obviously it's OK to be adulterous when you're in Hollywood, especially when you're a famous celebrity. Next thing you know, they're going to do a reality show following the lives of ALL of Letterman's mistresses. Letterman Plus 8 (or however many it is).

Crap

Other than keeping up with IMPORTANT news, I'm finding it almost unnecessary to watch TV, especially all this crap from the so-called entertainment world. At least I don't watch 24-hour reports on Michael Jackson anymore. But now it's all about the Gosselin family. Why are they even in the celebrity category anyways? Is it because years ago they both agreed to exploit their kids for the love of money? I don't care who's having an affair. Both are at fault, and the attempt of the media (and TLC) to make HER look good isn't working. She is abusing her kids, not physically but in every other way possible. Please remove her face from the news. They can do a show called "Kate plus 0".

If I wasn't so tired I'd comment on Dave Letterman. Maybe tomorrow.

America's Got Talent

OK normally I have nothing but negative things to say about reality shows. And even for most of the episodes I've watched of America's Got Talent, nothing has particularly stood out. It seemed that the only memorable acts are from strange people. There is the country singer who reminded us of Susan Boyle for some reason. Tonight I saw two kids probably eight or nine dancing to Michael Jackson but ballroom style. Huh?

But the last performance was that of a lady named Barbara Padilla who had evidently beaten cancer years ago. My first reaction was, well, of course, without a story how could they get so far? But then she started singing one of two opera songs that I truly adore (the other one is Pie Jesu), Ave Maria. I remember the first time I heard Sarah Brightman sing it, "there was someone in my eye". Tonight it happened again. While we'll find out tomorrow of she makes it to the final, I can't see anybody else beating her. As Piers Morgan said, "a star was born tonight". Bravo.

The Bachelorette

Other than the Canadian flavor of this season, is it me or is the show just getting sillier? Jillian almost fell for one of the worse species of human beings ever, and it looks bad enough that he got to the Final 6. Canadians aren't that stupid are they? She ends up choosing a guy that left her once. Damn what am I saying, I actually watched the show (but it was with someone special). And with the sparkling record of past relationships from the show, I wonder why people still watch it. I guess it's the American culture for you. Who's looking forward to the upcoming Octomom reality show. The kids get $250 each per show, maybe she'll use those fertility drugs some more.

Dancing With the Stars

Sometimes I don't understand what all the hype is with all these celebrity reality shows. For me, last night was a good example of how silly they really are. For the last four weeks of the show, it had nothing to do with who was the better dancer, but rather who was the most popular. Ask any dancing judge who was the better dancer last night and almost all of them would have said Gilles Marini. But we all know the show has nothing to do with skill. The same goes for American Idol. The better person doesn't always win.
