Sigh

Will I ever find true happiness?

Sick and Tired

It's been a rough week for me. We've been running around at work getting the 24-hour thing going and it hasn't been easy. We are understaffed and as a result the managers must efficiently run the casino as much as possible. Luckily we just got some new staff which should help a bit.

It also doesn't help at all that I've come down with a bit of the flu; cough and a bit of a sore throat. I bought a bottle of Benylin and drank it up in 24 hours (not a good idea). Hopefully I can get better soon.

The Battle

There is a promotion opportunity at work as a salaried/permanent floor manager (as opposed to my current position of Relief Floor Manager). What it essentially means is that I am on salary, will not get any more supervising shifts, and get better benefits (days off in lieu of stats, improved medical/dental, etc.). It will be a tough fight as I know there are a lot of candidates (some from other locations). But to not apply because I don't think I have a chance would be stupid. I never thought I'd have a chance to come back to the casino, let alone as a supervisor. I never thought I'd be able to get promoted to relief floor manager 17 months after coming back. So while this will be a tough battle, I shall fight the fight. David vs. Goliath.

Cruciverbalist

I've discovered a new hobby, the wonderful world of creating crosswords. I came across a book "Grid Lock" which perked my interest into this interesting pastime. It won't be easy but it will be something to do in my spare time. From what I've gathered, I can be paid anywhere from $50US to the hundreds for one good crossword puzzle. It won't be easy but I love a good challenge.

24

No, this isn't a post about the TV show, it's about my casino. As of today we are open 24 hours. It was a challenge to get used to the new lineups and figuring out new procedures. But the transition went pretty well, now let's hope we can make a lot more money!

Boredom

Back to work, back to boredom as a supervisor. But next week will be interesting as the casino will go 24 hours. I'm still unsure of most of my shifts so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Time Went By... So Quickly

So much for my holiday, back to work in a couple of hours. But it was wonderful while it lasted. As opposed to going somewhere, I decided to hibernate and do as little as possible. I did go out and see some movies, and drove to the Seattle Premium Outlets with Albert, Mei, and Lil. But other than that, it was couch potato time. I caught up on sleep and now I'm refreshed. Let's see what I have waiting for me at work.

Meanwhile, I'm waiting anxiously for October 20, as that is the premiere of The Prestige. This looks like a good movie. I'd seen The Illusionist last week and since I love the word of magic, The Prestige will hopefully be just as good.

The Wicker Man

Yikes, unfortunately I just saw the worst movie of the year. Why in the world did Nicholas Cage agree to star in this piece of trash? The only thing reasonably worthwhile in the movie was the supporting role of Leelee Sobieski, who I haven't seen in ages. Sister Honey, how appropriate a name was that?

The Illusionist

I briefly came out of hibernation to watch this movie and I'm glad I did. All I knew about the film was that it was about (guess) an illusionist in olden times. But the story was great and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Edward Norton played his starring role well and Paul Giamatti was his usual Oscar-caliber self. Rufus Sewell is very underrated as an actor, and his role as the evil Austrian prince was done masterfully. I was most impressed with Jessica Biel as the Duchess. Who knew she could actually act?

Holidays

One more 11pm-7am shift and I am off for 9 days! I haven't had a long holiday like that in a long while. I've decided I'm just going to take it easy, although I'll probably go to the States on the weekend to the outlets for some shirt shopping. Meanwhile, I'll probably stay in bed for two days just to catch up on all the lost sleep this year.
